West Ham United have been dealt a double injury blow regarding Manuel Lanzini and Vladimir Coufal.
What’s the latest?
That’s according to a claim made by Ben Dinnery, with the journalist revealing in a recent post on Twitter that the attacking midfielder and right-back, who both missed out on Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle United, were unavailable for the fixture due to injury.
Dinnery went on to state that the Argetine forward picked up an unspecified knock in training, while the Czechia defender had an issue with his hernia.
In his tweet, the injury analyst said: “Manuel Lanzini got a knock in training and Vladimir Coufal has an issue with his hernia.”
Fans will be livid
With David Moyes currently operating with both one of the smallest and one of the oldest squads in the Premier League, it is perhaps no surprise that, after playing 26 league fixtures, six Europa League matches, three Carabao Cup games and two FA Cup clashes – totalling 38 outings already this season – a number of the 58-year-old’s side are suffering from fatigue and injury.
Indeed, this is why practically every single supporter of West Ham felt as if the Scotsman desperately needed to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window, with Moyes himself even admitting that he needed a new left-back, centre-back and centre-forward in the winter market.
However, not only did the club fail to bring in a fresh face in any of their priority positions, they failed to bring anyone into the club at all last month – something that has led to many suggesting that Moyes and the board are throwing away the Hammers’ best opportunity for a top-four finish in recent memory.
And, with Coufal and Lanzini being sorely missed against Newcastle on Saturday – as taking a point at home against a side battling relegation is not exactly Champions League qualifying form – fans can quite rightly be livid with Moyes, as the manager’s lack of action in January is already proving to cost West Ham big time.
