Call of Duty: Warzone developer Raven Software has officially unveiled a new movement mechanic for the game’s big Season 1 update: the combat roll. The new feature will be one of the new movement changes coming to Call of Duty: Warzone with the integration of Black Ops 7 later this year, but the combat roll’s clunky animation and third-person transition are already drawing heavy criticism from fans.
As Activision gears up to release another Call of Duty title later this year, Warzone fans are once again preparing themselves for a ton of changes. The free-to-play Battle Royale will be fully integrated with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 when the shooter’s Season 1 update is released, which means all of the latest weapons, perks, operator skins, and more will become available within Warzone. Progression will also be shared between the two titles, allowing players to level up their weapons, Battle Pass, and more in both games. With Black Ops 7 introducing new omnimovement features, Warzone fans can also expect significant gameplay adjustments with the integration.
Call of Duty Fans Don't Like the Look of Warzone's New Combat Roll
During yesterday’s yearly COD Next event, developer Raven Software pulled back the curtain on some of the biggest changes coming to Call of Duty: Warzone with its big Season 1 update later this year. One new mechanic seems to have caught the attention of the community, but for all the wrong reasons, as fans are blasting the “horrible” new combat roll feature. The mechanic will be exclusive to the Mountaineer Perk, which allows players to fall from greater heights without taking lethal damage. Unfortunately, the animation attached to this perk is being called “scuffed,” “lazy,” and “absolutely horrible” by fans.
One of the biggest complaints coming from fans is the immersion-breaking transition from first to third-person. Twitter user YouWontTV responded by saying, “The transition in and out of third-person camera view looks clunky.” They then expressed their concerns about being shot by an enemy player while stuck in the animation, a concern shared by many in the community. Some suggested the animation remain in first-person, while others seemed to be protesting for Call of Duty: Warzone to integrate Black Ops 7‘s new wall-jumping mechanic, especially after players were given a sneak peek at it in-game following leaks earlier in the year.
There’s no confirmed release date for Season 1 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone just yet, but it is expected to launch by the end of the year. In the meantime, fans will soon be able to get hands-on with the next installment in the series as Activision is gearing up to launch the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 open beta in just a few days. Fans will be able to gain early access to the beta by pre-ordering the shooter, which will allow them to jump in from October 2. Those who don’t have an early access code will be able to take part in the beta from October 5.
